UCI Marathon World Series Extreme sur Loue – Ornans, Frankreich
Competing against the world’s elite marathon bikers, BMC athlete Martin Fanger gained a remarkable sixth place at the 84 kilometer „Extreme Sur Loue” in Ornans (France) which is part of the UCI Marathon World Series.
Martin Fanger was quite happy about his performance in Ornans. With a majority of the world’s best long distance mountain bikers pariticipating in the race, he had to face stiff competition. From the starting gun they had set a torrid pace – too high for Fanger at the very beginning of the four hour race. Thus he very early lost touch with the lead group of ten.
However, applying superb pedalling efficiency he later managed to catch up to German Champion Tim Boehme. In the end, Fanger even prevailed in their fight for sixth place.
„Cross country bikers are not used to riding such long climbs. Therefore, I am very happy about my success,” commented Fanger.
His teammate Moritz Milatz was hampered by mysterious physical problems two hours into the race and had to take a 15-minute break. „I felt totally worn out and have no idea why,” reported Milatz
